Step into the vibe-filled pixelated world of a girl and her curious cat companion. Explore a 2.5D diarama-style world, where each game area is like its own interactive lofi scene. Every moment in the game is coded to bring dynamic digital life, chill ambience, and good vibes to your monitor and room.
The game is small enough to run on most devices, and the game will always be playable offline and locally.
Stay at home forever, or go shopping in town. Watch the train come and go, or if she has the cash, buy a train ticket and send her on an epic journey to an unkown city full of neon, smoke, and moonlight.
Meet colorful characters and explore different areas to chill in. Unlock secret stories, areas, and area-specific items. Watch the pixelated characters live and breathe in dynamic digital scenes. Technically, you don't have to do a thing.
The project is still in its early stages, but I'll show my progress here, and any support is appreciated.
*Alpha build will be available soon at no cost
**This game is being built firstly and foremost for Windows and Linux, but with enough support, it could be ported elsewhere and developed much faster. If you want to be involved in this game's development, become a part of the community to comment, or make a donation to help me pay my bills.
Project Backstory:
Piris has an odd origin... its name is based on its original purpose: to making a raspberry pi a middleman between a desktop AI (Iris) and the real non-digital world, via a camera, microphone, and more. Aka, to give digital life a way to interact with the real world.
But the current idea for Piris is only like the original idea in the sense that, on some level, the program is still a vehicle and prototype for a digitlal life to interact with both the digital and non-digital worlds. But it's moved away from being an LLM-run Jarvis-Alexa hybrid-bot, and has instead become a little pixel video game world. While the MC mostly interacts with her own digital world, there are some small ways (more to come) for her to interact with the player and the real world. The camera and mic are still hooked up to the pi where I run my copy of the game, but I'm still deciding the best way to integrate them back into this little pixelated world.
The current idea for it came more from me just feeling really stressed and overwhelmed and wanting a little virtual buddy that lived on a small monitor on my desk, in a small customizable digital world. And not something that I had to open my phone for, I already do that enough. I commissioned a pixelated version of Iris and designed and coded her cat and room, and then I started seeing how I could use this project to materialize some of my older world designs and make something really cool that still encompasses the core idea of the project.
Developing this game has honestly been like art therapy for me. It feels satisfying to build this virtual world, to bring the characters and scenes to life. It's helped me to really step into my self-appointed role as an indie developer / mad scientist. 🤪
